Short Description:SUMMIT BTI BRIQUETS are based on the naturally occurring bactirum Bacillus thuringiensis, var. israelensis, Bti. It is considered to be one of the most environmentally sensitive mosquito and blackfly larvicides used in mosquito control. It contains a sustained release formulation offering activity against mosquito larvae for thirty or more days. The floating quality of the briquet provides for release of the active ingredient at the water's surface where it affects surface feeding larvae. As the briquet sinks slowly through the water column it is active on bottom feeding larvae as well.Active Ingredient:Bacillus thuringiensis, var. israelensis. (Bti)Mode of Action:SUMMIT BTI BRIQUETS are formulated to release effective levels of Bti for a period of 30 days or more under typical environmental conditions. The floating action of the briquets will ensure that active material is released at the surface as well as gradually settle to the bottom. Bti must be consumed by the actively feeding mosquito larvae to achieve control. Mosquito larvae actively feed and ingest the Bti particles. Once in the mid-gut of the mosquito the Bti creates a protein by-product that affects the mid-gut of the larvae resulting in rapid control. It degrades in the environment and therefore is not active outside of the treatment period.Where/When to use:These briquets may be used in all types of mosquito breeding areas. To prevent briquets form being flushed out of certain treatment sites they may be anchored using string tied through the hole in the center or staked in place.Briquets may also be applied to dry areas which are known or suspected to become breeding sites when flooded, woodland pools and abandoned swimming pools are examples of pre-treatment applications. When briquets are exposed to flooding, they begin to release the active ingredient and suppress larval development. Subsequent wetting and drying will not reduce their effectiveness.
